You will find your claims and clinical data through a third-party app that you will choose. NC Medicaid approves a set of third-party apps for this purpose. You can also let us share your health data with other payers. This creates a more complete record of your health history.

With these changes, you can now use smartphone apps to view your claims and clinical data. You can also use other devices. This means you can see your health history, medications, test results, and more. You can find it all in one place. You do not have to wait for paper records. You don’t have to remember everything during doctor visits!
You have more control over your health data
When you choose an NC Medicaid–approved app, you give the app permission to access your data. You can also change your mind and remove access at any time.

You have easier access to your health history. This helps you better understand your health status. You can track your progress and make informed choices about your care. You can also use this information to have more meaningful talks with your healthcare providers. You can play a more active role in managing your health.
1. Register for a North Carolina Identity Service (NCID) account if you do not have one
If you already have an NCID, you will use it to log in in the next step. If you do not have one, you will need to register for one. Visit the NCID website. Follow a few simple steps to create your account. You can also click “Register” or “Login” on this site and set up your account using our registration process. This will be the key to unlocking your health data.
2. Go through our online identity proofing process
You will use your NCID to register. As part of this process, you will go through identity proofing. Once we confirm that you are who you say you are, you can use your NCID to log in to NC Medicaid Connect and manage data access.
3. Choose your apps and manage your sharing
Once you register, you can choose an approved app. Then you use your NCID to allow it to access your data. You can also use this site to remove access to apps.
To access your health data through third-party apps, you must sign up!
To start, click the "Register" button at the top of this page. Then click "Beneficiary Registration."
You will first be asked if you have an NCID. NCIDs are the accounts North Carolina residents use to access online state services. You must set one up to access your health data.
If you already have an NCID, you will be asked to enter it.
If don't have an NCID, or would like to use a different one, you may use the NCID website to register for one.
Please sign up as an individual. (Do not sign up as an organization.) Only individual accounts can view beneficiary data.
Once you have your NCID, you may use it to log in to this site. You can complete your registration.
When you register, you will add your personal information. This must match exactly what is on your Medicaid card.
We will use your information to search for your data. If we cannot find it, you may need to update your contact information. Do this at NC Medicaid.
We will also use your information to check your identity digitally. We may need to contact you by phone or text. You may need to send images of a government identification document such as driver license, passport, or state ID and a photo of yourself.
Once you register and go through identity proofing, you can log into this site. You can find approved apps. You will use your NCID to log into them.
Remember, you are in control of your health information. You can remove consent at any time. Do so if you no longer want to share your data with a specific payer or app.
Each time you choose to use a new third-party app to view your health data, you will need to give consent. This lets you stay in control of your data. You only share your data with apps you trust. First you start the connection between a third-party app and your NC Medicaid health records. You will be asked to review and approve the data-sharing request. You decide whether to grant access. You will be asked to give consent each time you log in. If you change your mind or no longer want to use an app, you can remove consent at any time. You can do this through the NC Medicaid portal.
Each NC Medicaid–approved app must agree to our Terms and Conditions. But each app can have its own privacy policy. You should review the data-sharing request with care. You should check the app's privacy policy. Do this before you give consent. This ensures that you are comfortable with how they will handle your data.
NC Medicaid has vetted a set of apps with care. They meet high standards for privacy, security, and functionality. This gives you good options when you choose an app.

View the current list of apps approved by NC Medicaid, which notes the features of each app. You can do this from within your account.
Apps that have not gone through the approval process cannot access beneficiary data.
When you use NC Medicaid apps to view your health data, you should take steps to protect your privacy and security. NC Medicaid–approved apps have strong privacy and security rules. They tell you how your data will be used, stored, and shared. These apps only ask for access to the data they need for their intended purpose. Use strong, unique passwords for your NCID. Use them for any approved apps you use to access your health data. Check your consent settings regularly. Remove access for apps you no longer use or trust. If you think that your health data has been compromised or misused, reach out to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Go to security.ncdhhs.gov to report an issue.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) grants you certain rights concerning your protected health information (PHI).
NC Medicaid–approved apps are required to adhere to the privacy and security standards set forth by the CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule. However, third-party apps are not "business associates" of NC Medicaid, and their use and disclosure of data is not covered by HIPAA.
